Note from the President
AFA’s Air, Space & Cyber Conference and AFA’s National Convention are just a few short weeks away. The AFA National Staff and AFA Leaders have been busy for months planning another spectacular event in September. This year I charged the staff with making the conference bigger and better than before, and they are hard at work doing just that. I encourage all AFA members if you have never attended the convention and conference before to try to make it the Gaylord National Hotel for AFA’s premiere event.
AFA’s National Convention is an exciting opportunity for AFA members from around the country and abroad to come together and play a pivotal role in shaping AFA. Taking place on September 17-18, 2016 some highlights this year will include; AFA Field Awards, a memorial service and wreath laying at the Air Force Memorial, additional training for current and potential AFA Field Leaders, and many other activities. A full delegate agenda and activities for guests and spouses are available.
AFA’s recently renamed Air, Space & Cyber Conference will offer attendees 3 full days to learn and discuss the most pressing trends and topics shaping the Air Force. Taking place September 19-21, 2016 the conference is a great opportunity to get a front row seat to senior leaders from the Department of Defense and the Air Force. We are excited this year that to welcome The Honorable Robert Work, Deputy Secretary of Defense, from the Depart of Defense and General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As always we also look forward to hearing from the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff, and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. The conference will have a total of 38 sessions ranging from workshops to major addresses. We also will once again have enlisted focus sessions geared toward enlisted Airmen, and the highlight of the conference is our Outstanding Airmen of the Year Dinner and Air Force Anniversary Dinner.
Finally, I would like to recognize and honor the life of Chief Master Sergeant Charles P.H. Bascom who passed away on July 18, 2016. Chief Bascom enlisted in the Air Force in Boston MA on November 19, 1951 and had a distinguished career. The Chief retired in 1992 having proudly served for more than 41 years. Our prayers go out to Chief Bascom’s family and we thank he and his family for his service to our nation.
